I use this medium as a way to get back to one of the most basic forms of visual expression: simple pencil and paper. However, once completing a rendered image as tightly as possible I use a process of layering different colors of pencil over one another to give each drawing a greatly expanded tonal range and depth. Then, to complete the process, I combine the raw image with a number of paper collage elements to help tell the story of the drawing. This laborious process is quite satisfying, and provides an outlet for a much more raw and textural artform than my typical painting style does.
