had hyper and dragon fly. the hyper is stunning and fascinating to use. i have nbever used a rotary and decided to chuck my oar in and have a blast with one, loved it, so found the dragonfly was coming on the market and so sol the hyper for a machine claimed to be better than the hyper. wrong, it doesn't seem to have enough poke in my opinion. i have heard great things about the swash drives but have felt a bit burnt from my rotary adventures, so others artists input would be appreciated on what machine can match the hyper or better ?

swashdrive is the best rotary you can get,the sawshdrive movement is very diferent from the other rotarys because the sawsh plate cause less damage in the skin

I use a Stealth for black and grey and colour. I've noticed smoother blends and quicker healing times, far less skin trauma than a coil machine and before anyone suggests so, yes i can tune a coil machine properly. I just think they run smoother. A colour packing coil machine needs plenty of stroke and a strong slow hit. I find i can pack colour with my Stealth better and with less skin trauma because it has the long stroke but doesn't seem to need to hit as hard as a coil machine to do the same job.

And rotaries of all types are much lighter and therefore easier on the wrist and for tattooing in hard to reach areas because you're not wrestling with the weight of a coil machine.

However I am still yet to find a rotary i can line with to the same standard i line with a coil machine.

i have a swiss rotary (which is the square looking model that the stealth and a dozen other types are rip-offs of) i paid like $400 for it and i really don't use it all that much. it has a real long stroke that can't be adjusted and runs real steady... so far its been a well made and dependable machine... but the only thing that i think it really beats coils at is saturating large areas... i have not been sucessful with blends using it. so if something needs to be colored in it works... otherwise it collects dust.

Madmosher: I use a stealth as well, but only for black. As far as packing SOLID black with a coil machine, I much prefer the rotary for that. However, I only use the rotary for packing solid black and still use coils for the rest. I completely agree with the rotary for black with long tapers. Smooth healing and it is VERY easy to put in the black.

I use the blitz rotaries from tatsoul. gggrrrreat machines. unlike other rotaries the frame design allows the motion to be completely linear so it's super straight on. just thought i'd give my 2 cents. i definitely want to get my hands on stigma or dragonflys as well.

Neo-tat is allright for shading and colouring but lining does not seem to work. Much slower than coils but superior healing.

I've had success lining with a Rapier II as it seems to be the closest to a coil machine but for shading Neotats or Stigmas work really well too.
