Looking for a good RED

Posted by Tattoodood on 05/09/10

Hey guys ive been tattooing 5 years now and im still on the search for a great red. Ive tried Spaulding, Unique, Intenze, National, MOMs, Prime pigments, and Starbrite. Some go in easier than others but thats not the problem. Ive found found over time that some heal lighter or kind of looks pink after some time. Ive been able to get Unique's cherry red packed in pretty good but when it heals it seems on the dark side. Im looking for a brighter better red. Anyone have any advice? I havent tried Eternal, Fusion, Waverly's, Dermaglo, Fantasia, or Kuro Sumi colors to name a few.

Any suggestions would be great! Thank you!

I second eternals lipstick red. Its a pure bright red, and it always seems to go in very smooth..veeery smooth..try it, i know you will love it. does not heal pinkish.

i have all of the waverly colors and some i like and some not so mucn. his red is pretty good. i just recently bought a whole bunch of fusion and i must say the really red is amazing. it goes in the skin very easy and one pass you no that it is in. i am extremely happy with all of fusions color so far. there emerald green just seems to fly right into the skin also. i think i will be switching to them as my main ink

the light blue from waverly is pretty sweet and his red is pretty good also. i dont really like the greens except the chartreuse

I was always disappointed with every red I'd ever used for exactly the same reasons as you...recently, I switched completely to eternal and the lipstick, crimson and deep reds are amazing if you're looking for deep, rich color. Fly in with ease and hold really well so far. Lipstick is by far the best I've used to achieve that "red" red color. Try it out.

the waverly ink is great in almost any color. the red is really awesome. i hate skin candy most of their colors turned a nasty brown color, however the reds actually worked really well. starbrite light red is really nice. i haven't used eternals reds but everything else i have used from them has been pretty nice.

This might be a great opportunity to ask... I got a tattoo done 3 months ago. VERY reputable artist... He used spots of Eternal Lipstick red. Looks awesome.... but itches like a son of beeotch!!.... anyone else? Its ONLY on the red spots. IM thinking it may be a personal allergic reaction... Ive never had anyone use Eternal inks on me yet so who knows.

I am just a apprentice but so far as I have seen it I have used Eternal reds, My wife has Dark red on her and I have Lipstick Red on me. They stick and are bright when healed so I say eternal.

Electric Ink "Fire Red" is wonderful stuff, heals great and ages very well. It lightens up with white more like a magenta rather than going pink and blends with their oranges very nicely.

I start to tst the waverly color and I can just say that they are quite easy to use and seem to heah great.....and the guy from waverly is the best man I evr made biz with...period....so you can try those....they are thick but flow in easily....shke them well, its the only trick.....tested the red and crimson and they seems perfect...oh also seem that the ink are mixing with each other quite easily.....
so thanks Bill

Fantasia's deep red heals a nice 'true' red color, as I've found that a lot of reds that look great fresh tend to pink out a little when healed ( starbright scarlet red anyone!). The fantasia doesn't do this, but its doesn't play well with others when mixing pigments, as the tone is a little darker than a bright red. in other words don't try to make pink with it. The fusion really red is brighter and a nice addition when going from darker to lighter shades and mixes well. Eternal makes a ton of great pigments as well. I just wanted to throw the fantasia in there since I hadn't seen it on here and it really is a beautiful color ad a true healing red when put straight in.
