Hey guys, I'm doing a little homework here and would like your input!
Who is your favorite supplier/distributor of professional tattoo supplies? Who is your least favorite? Why?
Thanks!!

You should check out Superior tattoo supply... The name says it all: Better than the rest! cam and huck spaulding are solid choices too. Remember , you want the guns to run Loud!

Shit man, I runs my guns WIDE OPEN @ 12v and sink it to the tube!!
C'mon Bob... I did say PROFESSIONAL.
Nick's forum is normally a busy forum frequented by very talented and opinionated individuals who demand the best and talk shit about the rest... those are the opinons I was looking for.
Thanks!!

haha... Ok, avoid those mentioned! I like kingpin for stuff like clpcords, foot pedals and sundry items. I use starbrite, and buy that from tommy's, as well as skin markers. He has a good selection... I use Mithra or Tatsoul needles, but I get tired of dealing with the horribly misspelled mithra site! The needles are consistent though. Fuk, man: This shop I was at a while back was ordering from Glove for the Artist(?why?), and almost everything they sent was expired! Inks, needles, even a topical lidocaine anesthetic(which are useless anyway IMO).

Eikon, Kingpin, Lucky. Avoid Superior at all cost!

Before I answer this, let me just say I'm talking in reference to general shop supplies, I don't buy needles, tubes, machines, or inks for any of the artists in the shop so this is not in reference to those things. I find Kingpin to be the most knowledgeable and consistent, They have a staff that knows tattooing, and is super helpful and friendly. My only gripe would be sometimes ground shipping is a bit slow, but there is of course the option of paying more to expedite it. I think their online catalog is one of the easier to get through.

Eikon is good too, but their staff isn't so much in the industry. They have a staff that knows how to read numbers, take orders, and they are very professional but they lack the personal appeal of Kingpin. They also tend to go out of stock of random stuff quite frequently. They're online catalog is nearly impossible as things are categorized weird, and their search function sucks. If you're looking for a & d and you type a&d it will tell you you're SOL. Which is annoying, especially based on the fact the categorization is pretty bad.

While it's not a tattoo supply company, I would also highly suggest ULine for items in bulk like plastic cups, antibacterial soap, cleaning materials, paper towels, they even have sharps containers and mop buckets.

Those three are what I usually stick to. I haven't had bad experiences with any tattoo companies but I will tell you DO NOT ORDER FROM GLOVE SAVER. I tried ordering from them because just about everyone in the world (Eikon included) was out of the gloves our artist preferred, so it was a last ditch resort. It literally took about 20 emails and MONTHS to get the gloves.

Pulse is also awesome! We just tend to order from Eikon or Kingpin for the most part.

Thanks for the input. I use the same suppliers for the most part.
Kingpin: disposable liner tubes (and they have new "soft touch" tubes. The same as their other dark blue ones, but w/ a soft grip!), mags, some liner needles, clip cord covers, ointment & incidentals.
Gloves I buy @ Costco. Made by Kimberly Clarke and ya can't go wrong w/ 300 nitrile gloves for $15.00!!
Eikon: Power
Ink: direct from the manufacturers.
National: Disposable mag tubes (their tubes are AWESOME) and some colors.
CAM: liquids ie: green soap, Madacide FD.

I've heard Bicknee has nice disposable tubes in a clear lexan?? Anyone tried them out?

tatsoul and eikon are my top picks. tatsoul doesn't have everything yet but i hear they have a lot of things in the works and their needles are hands down the most consistent. i hear they hand inspect every needle with power microscopes plus coming out with bugpins and the best disposable tubes coming out in the summer (according to the hype)... eikon has been around and have great stuff too especially their power supplies... i do believe you get what you pay for!

Eikon for springs, Kingpin for disposible tubes, Pulse for coils and DEF PULSE for power supply (just seems to have more kick to it than the eikon ones I have used, who needs all that digital metered crap anyway? seriously?) - Starbrite from Papillion - I like silverback for mixing down pigments - I like Zuperblack as well. I use some Eternal colors - For good "old school" colors like Red and Blue I like Micky Sharpz pigments... Frame Geometry: (don't laugh..I actually like the superior light touch or soft touch whatever it is - Just the frame though - the vise is sturdy too - all the components are crap, but for the price I love the geometry- I like "stencil stuff" - love my tatsoul chairs - I like spearman needles too. I also like long walks on the beach and green olives. I had some time machines before and they ran pretty smooth, but so tricky to tune (for me anyways).

Just my humble opinions (usually I am posting from Iraq, but this year I get to post from Afghanistan - woohoo - cant wait till next year when I get to start tattooing again full time)

HST... What national colors do you like? Triple black is the shit, and I have had good results with some colors, less so with others... Oh, and I forget the name, but the last poster : Is there a reason you buy your starbrite from papillon and not tommy? Oh, and are you an active US service member? If so, thank you! World politics are a giant clusterfuck, and regardless of all that, you are doing your job.

Hey Bob,
I love their Navel Orange and most of the National reds. I use their purple & turquoise too... cover all green is an amazing color!
I break them down with some Silverback Clear as they are too thick for my tastes directly from National.
Negative on the triple black, I have tried it in the past. I use Silverback Black.

bobmcgee: Yeah I am reservist -
I use Papillion instead of Tommy because I have used them forever (since 2003) - I also know that Superior uses Tommy as a distributor - and when I called Pappillion they said that the two guys are brothers and Tommy modified the original formula - I am not sure which is the "best" but I have to say I am weary of superior because I am from Arizona and I have friends who used to work for superior and they said that Tommy ships them pigments dry and they mix them in house - so who knows what you are really getting, and who knows how many other suppliers receive the dry pigments like that -and what kind of quality control exists.. Just personal preference and loyalty to Papillion. (i like their coastal waters shader machine too).

I do not know where you get your info from but i do not sell dry pigments what so ever. Superior does not buy from me. We were actually working with papillon together and we split up do to partner differences. The pigments are exactly the same the only difference is that we sterilize and test our colors. If they are talking bad about me then i will call them and find out why because they buy stuff from me as i also buy things from them but i will clear this up with them because i have never talked bad of them and i thought we were doing just fine. Before you start stuff on the forum you should really clear you facts up and maybe contact both side before assuming.

On this topic, can anyone reccomend a good armrest? I've never really been completely satisfied with any armrests I've used :/ Maybe I'm just picky but I always assumed there was someone out there making really nice, super-sturdy armrests.

Tommy -- I apologize if what I said was taken as FACT, I said "I am from Arizona and I have friends who USED to work for superior and they said that Tommy ships them pigments dry and they mix them in house" Key words, Former EMPLOYEE of SUPERIOR and they SAID to me.
The guys were very sincere and had no reason to make it up, and I know for a fact that they worked there.

I have a problem with Superior though, because when I purchased ink from them - and then noticed the bottle looked different from the Papillon ones I had (ie the text that said Starbrite) was different, and I called them the conversation went something like this:
"Do you guys make your Starbrite?"
"No"
"Do you get it from Papillon?"
"YES"

So I was like, WTF??
I called Papillon, then they told me "NO"

I called Superior back again, and I recorded the conversation!!!
I have an MP3 of it somewhere, and the guy said the same thing - "It is the same pigments"

So then, I called Superior (yet again - after calling a few of my friends trying to figure this out) and asked to talk to a manager, and the manager explained to me about TommyGun Supply giving it to them - I will admit the manager did not say that the pigments were mixed at superior, but I did not ask this because I did not find out about that until the next day when I was at the studio talking to the guys who used to work at Superior.

I was not trying to state that I knew this as a fact. I was just stating that I have a friend who used to work there in the sales, warehouse - and he told me what he personally saw. I have no problem with Tommy Gun Starbrite - just with superior's honesty, or lack of employee training.

If their employees don't know where the ink is from, and the are possibly mixing it in house, to me that spells a recipe for problems., I am going to re-iterate.. I HAVE NOT SEEN PERSONALLY SUPERIOR MIX DRY PIGMENTS.

I will also say that when I called Papillon Supply, they had nothing bad to say about Tommy Supply - and they really didn't seem to even care that a Superior employee had given false information (intentional or not).

Sometimes if I am out of disposable tubes I will run by Superior to just grab 2 or 3 while I wait for my Kingpin order to come in. And I ask the employees simple stuff about the machines - and they are confused as fuck.

Once again, I apologize to Tommy - I was not knocking the product. I was knocking Superior Tattoo's "possible" questionable business practices, and at the same time stating that I have been a loyal customer since 2003 to Papillon Supply.

Hey bobmcgee, My name is Mike and I'm the new owner of The Glove For The Artist. I am very sorry to hear that you had a bad experience with our company. I'm not sure how long ago it was that the situation occurred, but let me assure you that if something like this was to happen under my watch, I would definitely take the steps to fix the problem. Hopefully one day you will be willing to try us again and I can change your mind on how you feel about us. I'm not sure if I can post our number here, but feel free to look us up on the web and give me a call if you decide to try us out again.

Do you care if your supplier sells to professionals only or if they will sell to anyone with the money to buy? Is this too old school of an attitude?
