A white light not warm or cold but White light 5500k is daylight colour google White balance for more info. full spectrums better and not to bright because of the specular highlight.

Menards or big-lots sells a 27 watt full spectrum standing lamp with an adjustable neck for 29.95! its exactly like the 169 dollar ott light. the Menards one is black, and the biglots one is white.

your welcome

Done waste your money buying cheap lights, ie big-lots, the ballasts in them burn out and can't be replaced. Ran a session, it popped and started smoking at the base where the ballast is located almost started a fire. The product is made cheaply, be warned. I highly recommend Verilux lighting products. Worth the money, lots of selection.

Ott lights work really well and if you are after more than just a bulb to convert an existing lamp, they quite often have some decent bargains bargains in their scratch and dent section.

Ive had a big lots light for two years no problem replaced the bulb a few times because Ive knocked over the lamp and shattered it. They work well just buy an expensive bulb to put into it

Wouldn't LED light bulbs would be the best for this? Led tends to last way longer and it consumes a way less electricity. That's why you see all stores using LED lights to light up basically anything in their stores. They are a little more expensive than the regular light bulbs but they are 10 times better. But they can be hard to find sometimes because most stores don't sell them due to electricity companies not wanting you to save a crap load of money so they bribe on the stores not to sell them as much they can(conspiracy)

Hi there,
I use the head lamps(the kind that mechanics and cavers use) that tie around your head. Mine take three(3) AAA batteries and lasts for almost 20 hours per stretch. In that way you get up close, no shadows from hands and by-standers, and always see the exact amount of ink going in :-)
Hope this helps.
Ds.

I've had experience with the Ott lite and the cheaper model. i can say 2 things, the cheaper one seems to provide more light (maybe I'm trippin. i can't compare them cause the ott lite's bulb burned out) which is number two; when the ott lite's bulb went out, I don't remember how much a new one was but I'm fairly certain it was more than the entire cheaper unit costs all together. Not too sure about the faulty thing. I've used mine for nearly two years at very long hours with no problems. As for the LED thing, I could be wrong but to my knowledge LED is not a true light source as far as what your illuminating goes. It almost always has a "blue-ish" tinge to it which could greatly affect the way you see what you're working on. I've seen those small LEDs that mount to the front of tattoo machines, and I've only seen them used for outlining. Again, I could be wrong about it, but I always suspected that it was due to the color it gave off.

Yeah I know what you mean about the LED being too blue, but there is also LED that the same soft color as the other light bulbs there not all blue. When you the package that your buying it would say if its a warm light or a soft white or regular or any other kind.

@ Solomon..
I bought mine at a camping/outdoor shop. I use Duracell batteries only, they seem to last much longer than the other brands :-)
Even if the batteries croak, I find that they are relatively cheap...
Clients call me "doctor" heheheh!

I bought this one http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001CTT5Q8/ref=oss_product a few months ago, and I think the light output is decent, but it's just not made well enough to be adjusted and moved around much in the long term. The joints are made with a pretty cheap design, so they aren't holding up well, although I'm pretty sure I could easily replace some of the screws and bolts to keep it together. I don't recommend this model...

Somewhere in a thread awhile back Gaston I think shared a link to the full spectrum lights he bought for Miami Tattoo. They were metal (chrome maybe?) and looked pretty nice. I think they were like $99... If you dig around a bit with the search function you could probably find it. GL :)
