Which Coils?

Posted by Andy on 09/30/10

Ok so I have a Next Generation Orion Aluminum the full coil, but I order it for linear and It hits pretty damn hard and it vibrates a little so I prefer it to be a shader. So im guessing i would have to switch the coils and the capacitor to a 33 or 47. Im thinking ordering a set from Bicknee, does anyone have experience with their coils? But I am also interested in Tyler Mason coils 9 1/2 wrap (http://tylermasonart.com/coils.html) I know I can just resend it to Next Gen and they would tune it for me but i don't want to go trough all of that process when I can do it myself. I would appreciate any input about it

Bicknee coils are great but honestly I would send it back to next generation for retuning

hey, your NEXT GENERATION vibrate becouse is aluminium frame, i have one too, but half coils, vibrate, but is one of the best machine i ever use
u don like vibration the problem is the frame, not the coils...actually the NEXT GENERATION have a lot of vibration, more than other machines i have try, i dono why
also for fast liner NEXT GENERATION is not really reccomended machine, becouse have a heavy A-BAR, is half inch large, so is too heavy
use IRON or BRASS frame, of cousre is more heavy, but not vibrate, maybe done a lot of hole with the drill in IRON frame, so become little bit more light

Yeah I know it suppose to vibrate due to being aluminum so that's why I prefer it to be a shader. But it hits to fast so I have to slow it down by switching the cap with the coils attach. Im for sure going to buy another one for color packing

Yep, I have a Next Gen Aluminum Orion Shader that sits in my drawer. It actually runs really well and the extra vibration doesn't bother me too much with the disposible tubes but the way it is set up just doesn't suit my tattooing style. I threw around the idea of ripping it apart, changing the springs etc. It has less then 30hrs on her so I think I might just sell her as is.

ok, that u want run more slow, need change the back spring to 18, and use the half inch size spring, and aument the stroke, so the machine become more SLAPPy, i think is better for u

I have 2 next gens that I've altered for faster lining. Used the slotted frame to configure them to a more "cutback" geometry and added a workhorse iron speed bar. Hand cut and shortened the front spring. Configured it to run a lot more like a Rollomatic. Smooth as butter and much faster lining than stock. Use them both daily. I also use their machines stock for larger liner groupings.
Also, for those that don't know Next Gen now has a new and improved coil. They run at much lower voltage and are on all their new machines! Call em and ask about them. I've upgraded most of my old next gen coils and have been very happy with the results. Good clean fun and they are priced appropriately and not gouging!

No, my son has his own studio in Melbourne and I live in Brisbane.

My son is so busy he does not even have the time for a leak and is looking for an artist but with conditions, no attitude, rockstar behaviour, dna, must be a better artist than him etc etc. No luck sofar, I think attitude seems to be a problem everytime.

Have a look at my comments related to Surf n Ink, we will be there, and I hope to catch up with quite a few guys, probably on the Saturday.

Hey Mark

I had a look and they sell the coils for $25 which is a lot cheaper than Dart Vaughn at $80. I am not complaining either way have no information to compare.

They are half coils and I don't know what that means. There must be a difference somewhere but there is no furhter information. All I know is that 19.1Ft AWG24 wire = 1 Ohm

The quad coil Dart Vaugh technology should provide for 73% increase in power for 50% increase in material. That means reduced weight in coils for the same output. But again, I don't know the Ohms etc. because nobody is saying and I am not an Engineer.

Send me a message on gusblaauw@hotmail.com and I will tell you.

He has his website running but it needs improving and his mate doing it suffered some setbacks and it was delayed but there should be enough info to give you some idea.

Googled your website, you do travel far away from Italy at times.

I have mentioned Brother's machine parts in the past, and Dan is a really cool guy. They have some good stuff for builders , and Great coils! At 25.00 for a prewired set with cap, you cannot go wrong. He used to supply the coils and some parts to Workhorse up til about a year and a half ago, I don't know why not anymore, the usual drama maybe? Also, he sells boxes of 50 needles for 10.00! I was skeptical at first, but they are just as good as anything out there really...
