Blackest black

Posted by Mr T on 07/29/06

Hi guys and especial hello to nick.
This is my first post and i hope I am not being to staright to the point but i beleive there must be a better tribal black about than there is in the UK.
I put black in solid with no rough healing, hardly any blood when tattooing but its not as black as i would like.
Could anyone recommend a black for tribal that it sooooo black.

fanx people

try also kuro sumi black or starbrite's "tribal black"...apparently really thick and made for tribal.

i have fell head over kingpins ONE.....Joshua carlton told me about it and its all i have used since....really smooth for black and grey when cut and also very very black when used straight.....

steve, have you used talens, or kuri sumi? If so, are they comparable to One by Kingpin?

actually yes.i have used them both...it seems more grainy with talens...like a pencil kinda and as far as kura sumi..its really really smooth but i have found one even smoother...now i do use sumi for outlining..its a little thinner so its alot easier to get a crisp line....

ive heard of someone boiling Pelikan black down and seperating the thick part from the thin and then mixing the thick part with talens to make a reall thick, black black. what do you guys think of this?

i have heard something similar but not exact....now i know paul booth mixes talens and sumi and another friend of mine orrin hurley told me to try and just boil the pelikan and just use that itself for solid black and he says its amazingly black....no bluish tint either like pelikan usually has....i havent tried it though...my wife would shoot me if i dropped a pint of ink into one of her pots....

try triple black from national. it will change your life. i used to use black onyx from millenium until i found kingpins ONE and then triple, hands down triple from solid black and ONE from washes.

Intenze True Black is pretty hardcore, too! Just don't try to use it to outline...Don't.

I dont know how many of you have used the dermaglo from Eikon yet, i find that there Black is amazing. It goes in really smooth for Outlines, breaks down really nice for shading, and goes in just as solid as starbrites tribal black if not more solid, and it doesn't make nearly as much of a mess.

For tribal, I add 2-4 drops dark blue and bright red and then 1-2 drops yellow (all Intenz) to a large cap of Dynamic black. The idea is based on a four color (CMYK) printing technique. It goes in easy, is VER RICH, and doesn't dull after it heals like I've seen straight Dynamic and ONE do.

Anyone else ever try/hear of this?

WTF Am I Hearing???
Blackest Black? Is someone smoking crack in here? black is one color,no more,no less! let me say it slowly so you can understand....the only factor that makes these inks different from one another,is 1)the viscosity of the pigment (and note i use the word pigment) 2) the amount of pigment added to the mixture,And 3)the additives in the mixture.if you find varying degrees of black ink out there, something was added to lighten it up.Other than that,Black is what it is,,,,BLACK!

No doubt Brian, Anything Dermaglo puts out is the best stuff on the planet, that's why you pay so much for it but damn if it's not worth every penny of it. I have to shelves of pigments in my tattoo booth, the one in hands reach is filled with Dermaglos and the other is mixes of other odd colors for odd pieces. It's consistency is not much thicker than water which insures a good flow rate which in turn you can tattoo a much larger area faster than ever and not have to over work the skin. Suprisingly, the pigments mix extremely well and rinse clean when switching colors also.
Anyone wanting to try this stuff can get it at Eikon, and I think they would not carry this stuff if it weren't a quality product. They have a sample pack for fifty dollars in case you don't want to take the chance of spending alot of money and not being satisfied. I can't say enough good things about their products...plus it's made with brick dust, cat shit, pixie dust and holy water.

having tried the gambit of blacks, talons, the new tattoo talons, mickysharpz tribal, rotering, intenze, starbrite national...blah blah,
so far my favourite black for true black without dulling has been the tribal black from the Troyglens series of colours, he seems to have put quite some effort into formulating his ink series and is a nice guy to boot. So if your in the market get a sample set of some Australian inks. Ive seen some ads floating around Tattto artist magazine for it so im sure america will catch up soon. Now i sound like an ad. ha I guess i am, ive just been stoke on how smooth they have been to work with.
search the interweb classiccolorsystems.com is the page

if black lightens or greys a little review your tattooing technique rather than knock the brand name. use mags instead of rounds or vise versa. i add purple and red for a good consistancy. comes out really smooth and dark.dont be afraid to experiment a little.
