Well, here is how I see it. I like National's triple black, and their black powder pigments are decent too... National has some ok colors, but they heal kind of flat. There are a ton of better inks out there these days that would benefit you more... Starbrite, Eternal, EasyGlow and Fusion are all better choices for your money. National has some good stuff for good prices, but they also have some terrible products... Their coils are awful, and I will never buy needles or tubes/tips/grips from there again! FYI, their tubes and tips are "backwards"compared to the standard, meaning the tip has a sleeve that fits into the tail, instead of the tip recieving the tail. so the tips and tubes are not interchangeable with most I have seen.

thanks for the info i was thinkin i might try them out although like you say they may be a bit flat could still be a few that could work for me and for the price of the set doesnt seem to bad for the amount im surprised though about what you said about the coils though i have a couple jonsies from them with their coils and they to me work great but to each their own eh? thanks again

Their older coils seem better made... I was messing with some rebuilds recently , and pulled out some national coils that my old co-worker had ordered and kicked me down. 20 minutes into building up a longstroke liner, the coil wire snapped like a dry twig with just a little torque. I then gave the other wire a pinch test, and same thing. I then tried the other pair of coils and the wire broke in the same place!

I second the mask. Without it you'll have colored boogers for days.

I used National for my first few years from 1995-1999. Then I went to work in a busy street shop on the east coast. All the guys there were using Starbrite, so I switched.
Years later, (2003) after moving back to the west coast, I saw some of my OLD customers from back in the day. Their colors were brighter than the colors on my own body...and their work was older than the tattoos on myself that we were comparing them to!!
I went back and bought a whole set of National again... some of the colors, LOVE EM! Some... eh, not so much.
To keep this short, I suggest their magenta and navel orange... fuck that's a bright orange!! Their red's & blues are very nice too.
They are a little thicker than I like, so I do thin them out w/ some clear, but... they work very well for me and look much better over time than some other colors I've used.
Just my opinion...

Has anyone on here ever had any experiences with the spaulding red (powder) that is apparently no longer available? I've had people say it can reject easier on some folks but on the other hand it can tend to be very vibrant healed as well. I just inherited 5 lbs. of it from a friend and have yet to sit down and mix any of it.
Anywhoo,
I have really liked the blues and greens that nationals sells to mix in the past (back to the subject, lol)

It says Bright Red, But thats about all I can make out on one of the wrappers, This stuff is pretty old, I can't make out any catalog numbers, I have only used the white powder from spaulding, but it is a bit more recent,
