spring? kind of

Posted by g-star on 08/31/09

i changed my springs on my exec and solution last week i purchased eikon springs, just because they were easier to get hold of on short notice. now i know this is a silly question, they are affecting the machine's performance they now being longer than the pulse springs would this effect the way the machines run now as to they are built. im thinking frame geometry was built to house the pulse springs right.

if they are not the exact same shape, size, and gauge with the exact same hardware in the exact same locations on the spring with the exact same tension applied to it all, then yes, some kind of subtle (or even drastic change) is bound to occur. thats just common sense, but as for anything more technical i couldn't tell you just based on what you wrote. there are some machine techies who frequent this forum, though.

Yeah man. Pulse rear springs in particular are a different length then Eikon. Not sure about the front. Plus, it was set up on another company's springs different material/thickness variations. I had a cutback liner that was built to pulse spring specs and it threw off the armature bar height, I had to swap the armiture bar for a shorter one. As long as you can adjust it so the needle is in the center through the tube and not angled down from the armiture bar, you should be alright. It will not run exactly the same, but you should be able to tune it to work well. Just make sure the needle is going through the tube right. The rest is just tuning. If you are new to it and unsure though it might not be a bad idea to see you can send it to pulse for a re-tune or get someone who knows them well to help you out.

if you want them to run similar, the spring gauge has a great deal to do with the performance and how its hitting. the length is a variable that relates to the angle of the contact screw, and the performance of the spring itself, and its give, or lack thereof and so on. did the springs need bending and are they at a similar angle of deflection? if this sounds cryptic, its meant to be. i suggest this book to cure what ails ya: http://infiniteirons.com/proddetail.asp?prod=BKS-TUNE

I forgot to add that personally it's best to just buy springs from the company that made the machine if you want it to run the same. And buy extras!

Put Pulse springs on the pulse machines or cut them yourself. You can get spring stock on ebay.

Pulse rear springs and Eikon are different because of different machine geometry.

I tried some pulse that I had on my FKs that raised my abar too much making the needle tough the tube.

I order some Eikons and they fit perfect. The machine actually shipped with Eikon with I thought it was cool.

If you buy eikon get the half inch wide ones. The widers one are like using a thicker gauge.

What was the gauge of the spring you need to replace I may have some spare ones left.

Joey D has springs cut to various measurements at Infinate Irons. You'd just have to take some measurements and buy what fits your machines :-)
