sobas machines

Posted by gjm on 08/04/09

im going to buy a new liner in the next couple days..does anybody have any feedback on sobas liners..i know theyre are tons of threads aimed in this direction, and ive read them all, most get in to pulse,fki...i think i may go with the iron clipper or mini re-up rusto..if anybody has used either of those machines id love to hear your input..or feedback on any workhorse irons liners for that matter..thanks in advance..

Any of Soba's liners are solid runners. I have a rusto liner , a pilot liner and a mini rusto liner, all work great. Also the aaron cain bottle opener liner is nice as well.
Soba's machines are high quality and he backs his products all the way.
The mini rusto is a quick liner , where the regular rusto and pilot are quite a bit slower, but they pack a punch.

I use a Pilot liner as well for my daily runner and am vey happy with it. I pretty much line with 5's and 7's-- a lot of one sitting pieces. I haven't had to do anything other than occasionally file the contact or maintenance a spring-- Solid machine.

i use a mini rusto for tight threes to loose sevens and that thing is great. get your hand speed rite, keep the tip full, and it's like using a marker.

Fki all the way. I just picked up an Exactor, best liner I've ever used.
Sobas are good but to heavy for my taste and good for small rounds.

Soba makes solid machines. I have several that are all exactly like they were the day I got them. They are very dependable....the mini-rusto liners are really light if weight is a factor. I bought our whole crew mini-rustos as a bonus one month at the shop a few years back. Everyone has been using them everyday for years with no problems.

Sobas are great liners.. I have a mini rusto... works great with all groupings.. also works good as a black n gray shader with mags up to 13...

changing the subject a bit, i am about to buy a pilot, been using a solution which ran well but i just dont seem to get on with it anymore, it works great for colour lines and highlights so will keep it for that, anyone else had this issue with the solution?

i ask the age because if its getting tired from being used a lot over the years it may just need a rebuild..have you replaced the coils, springs, contact screw? if you havent id give that a try,if you have and had no luck id give pulse a ring and tell em what problem your having and im sure they could help..on a side note sobas pilots are awesome shaders...

man, i just realised what ive done , what a idiot i was trying to say my exec is playing up my solution has alwas been fine an amazing machine. it was late and i was tired when i posted that..
i did a complete re-build not long ago, thing is the i seem to get the exec to run how i like then after a few sessions it starts acting up, just becomes a pain in the neck sometimes.

i too, had issues with my executive, but none of the other pulse machines ive used, and still use along with my other machines. I've heard this alot too, about the exec. Any way, I have a soba pilot as a shader. Solid built machine. I've had it near 4 years and only had to replace the springs on it once. Thats been it aside from minor adjustments when i first picked it up. Though its not my daily driver anymore, its in my rotation almost weekly still, and its certainly not a machine i would part with. My only "problem" is that replacement springs dont come punched. I wouldnt really call that a problem, just saying -have a spring punch in the shop ahead of time if you have to replace the springs. Hope this helps
