Colors

Hey Nick, the site looks great and your work is top notch.

I know you said you use Starbrite mostly, are those deep reds in some of your work from starbrite? you get great dedpth with them. Your greens are awesome as well.

That greenish tone that you used in that collaboration piece from AZ was real cool, how did you guys mix that?

I mainly use stable colors and like you, my everyday workhorse is a Gatsby.

Have you tried the half coil machines from Next Generation? I just got one and it's really nice. You've got to use it a bit faster but I'm digging it so far.

-yes i use starbrite reds.

-yes i have two half-coil nextgens, and i agree that they are nice. i hve them in aluminum so they weigh next to nothing (about as much as a thick marker). real hand-savers.

-that pale green is a mix of grey and yellow. now im giving away my secrets. just kidding.

Do you use your half coil Next Gen's as liners or shaders? (maybe you have one of each) I'd be interested to hear how you like it as a shader.

Mine is a liner and since it runs a bit faster I use it when I'm lining larger pieces.

Do you need to change your technique at all with yours?

yes, i have that nextgen as a liner and shader. i like the shader just fine, but it heats up a after a little while so im afraid to use any large needle groupings with it. i dont know if this is a problem with the machine itself (jason nextgen claims it's not), or with the fact that i changed its tuning slightly. because i made some slight adjustments to both of my machines before using them (increased the throw, changed the angle on contact post) i don't really know what the real deal with that is. i am certainly not a machine expert.

Do you use dermaglo colors and soba colors?

no, i have never heard of dermaglo brand before. and if by soba you mean his line of 'stable' pigments, then yes i have a few of them and use them once in a while.
