machine cuts out after long use...

Posted by Carter from IP: 99.168.72.153 on 08/03/11

Ive noticed that my machine doesnt seem to run as smooth or strong the longer I use it during a single session...ive noticed this mainly during longer lining sessions. I was curious if anyone else has had this problem occur and what the solution was. I cant tell if its the machine, the power supply or most likely just me. (equipment in question is an FK aluminum and a critical power supply) - thanks

Hi Carter
Are your coils on your machine getting hot, as the hotter they get the weaker they get, just a thought, could also apply to the transformer in the power supply.

Do you have a RCA hook up or cord ? I had a problem with the aluminum machines with consistency, the rca fixed that problem. I sent it to Gaston to re spring and hook up the rca. The aluminum is kinda a pain in the ass in my opinion and i would suggest steel or going with rca. Try cleaning out the tube, dried up ink could slow it down or add a volt. I think you said it just shuts off, cant remember now. Anyway hope that helped a little, wanted to at least try to help unlike most who ignore. This form went to shit since the pointless change. Good luck

My machines get a little warm... I wouldnt say they get even close to hot. And it also appears that its not just the liner but also my shader as well. Have always used RCA's with these two machines. After an hour or so they run like the contacts are slightly dirty, dont sound as smooth. Ive had the critical for about 3 years now and Im wondering if its not on its way out. Maybe time to purchase that backup PS that I always planned on. Thanks for the info.

i use one RCA for each machine and switch between the two with a toggle. Im about to switch out all the cords because I have eliminated the PSU as the source of the issue.

besides clipcord and cleaning your contact points is if there was some flux left when the rca got soldered on ..that will eat through the rca jack.good luck

HELLO AT ALL

HEY CARTER, try to polish with SAND PAPER the front spring and the contact screw where they touch togheder, sometime help a lot

about your machine get hot, how many volts u run, and how many AMPERE absorbe the machine ?
that u have CRITICAL power supply o the last EIKON u can read also AMPERE

more AMPERE make the machine HOT, a good machine need absorb less than 0.5 ampere

Sounds like your having a magnetic hysterisis issue... Most coils aren't made with true em-core material. Most builders use 1018 steel or some other alloy... The problem is, if your core material isn't what is called "Soft Magnetic" then the core isn't able with fully demagnetize inbetween cycles. Thus, you have a slow buildup of core magnetization, which has the effects of power loss and heat production...
